The Story Behind "Big Pissed Mullet"

When my brother and I were very young, fishing with my father and grandfather out of a 14ft flatboat with a 25hp evinrude, we always use to fish Venice, especially when the river hit that magical number 3ft!! We would always go to this one pond, where the reds were so thick you could catch them with a cane pole. Everytime we would arrive at the spot and ease the flatboat in there, as quietly as you can ease an aluminum flatboat, the reds would be going crazy in a foot of water. Now you see, my grandfather had problems seeing and hearing, and no matter how obvious it was that reds were everywhere, he would always say in a grumpy ole voice, "That ain't no reds, that is Big Pissed Mullet!!!" Hence the name was born.

Team Big Pissed Mullet

The Wilson Bros. Profile:

Gary and Gus Wilson were born in Harvey, La, and have a combined saltwater knowledge base of the louisiana bays and waterways totaling over 50 years.  Our age may not show that, but we've been traversing the saltwater systems of South Louisiana since we could walk, and have been yanking reds in since we can remember.  We've come a long way since Zebco's and UglyStiks, and our passion for redfishing has been increasing exponentially as the years have passed.  We're unofficially based out of our Grand Isle camp, where we spend just about every weekend in the summer, but some of our favorite locations to hunt down the infamous copper studs that have driven fishermen to extremes are Lafitte, Myrtle Grove, Venice, and Delacroix.  We can't nail down our favorite location, but we can say that given a variety of conditions, we like to think we have a few aces in the hole. However we are always on the path to expanding our knowledge and learning from the best.  And of course, we always feel compelled to bring along the ol' man for moral support on our weekend outings, either in preparation for a tournament, or for some plain old-fashioned fishin' - after all, he's the one responsible for instilling the passion we have for chasin' spots and dots!
